Arike - Where Malayalis Date
(A Glimpse)
Arike is a dating app built for Malayalis, serving millions of users with a modern approach to dating. My role was to redesign the experience with a focus on simplicity, minimalism, and a visually engaging color system—creating a product that feels both contemporary and culturally relevant.
My Role & Contributions
I led design across both brand and product, ensuring a cohesive and engaging experience end-to-end:
Product Design (UI/UX) Built Arike’s core experience around simplicity, culture, and engagement.
App Store Presence Created Play Store & App Store assets for acquisition and positioning
Marketing Collaboration Partnered on high-production video ads and campaigns
Cross-functional Work Worked closely with the CEO and engineering team to bring the product to life

The challenge
Arike is designed specifically for Malayali users, a culturally rich audience with strong regional identity and visual preferences. The challenge was to create a design language that feels deeply rooted in Kerala’s essence while still being modern and appealing to a wide user base.
Kerala is often associated with nature, warmth, and vibrant cultural tones. The goal was to translate this identity into the product experience without making it feel overly traditional or visually overwhelming. Color became a key element in achieving this balance.
We chose yellow as a primary accent—drawing inspiration from Kerala’s natural elements, such as flowers and festive visuals. The challenge was to use this color in a way that feels attractive, lively, and emotionally resonant, while maintaining simplicity and usability across the interface.

Redesign Ideology
The redesign of Arike focused on creating a simple, emotionally engaging experience that reflects the cultural essence of Kerala while feeling modern and intuitive. The approach was rooted in minimalism—removing visual clutter and simplifying interactions to make the product easier to navigate and more accessible for a wide range of users.
Color played a central role in shaping the new identity. Inspired by Kerala’s natural landscape and cultural elements, yellow was introduced as a key accent to bring warmth, vibrancy, and a sense of familiarity to the experience. This was carefully balanced with a clean and restrained interface to avoid overwhelming users.
The overall direction was to craft a design language that feels culturally connected yet contemporary—combining simplicity, clarity, and expressive visuals to create a product that is both functional and emotionally resonant.
Beyond Product Design
In addition to product design, I contributed across multiple brand and marketing touchpoints to ensure a cohesive experience. This included designing icons, crafting App Store and Play Store assets, and creating marketing creatives such as campaign visuals and press banners. The goal was to maintain a consistent visual language across all user-facing surfaces, strengthening both brand identity and product perception.
